It’s no secret that masculinity has been greatly diminished over the last several generations. The strong leader, gentle giant, and competent husband/father has been replaced with men like Raymond Ramon from “Everyone Loves Raymond”, Charlie Sheen from “Two And A Half Men”, Doug Heffernan from “King of Queens”, and virtually every adult male in most cartoon comedies on TV today.
Now, before you begin to think this is going to be a TV show bashing session let me also mention that there are several shows that depict men in a much more positive light. The only problem is you need to go back a little further to find them.
So, the question becomes then, “What is a man supposed to do/be?”. The answer to that question can help really clear up a lot of confusion in our marriage, relationships, and attempts to raise our children. A quick search on Google will come up endless books, resources, websites, curricula, seminars, programs, and services that aim to answer the same question asked above. If there are so many differing options which one are we supposed to believe? Are we to approach this topic like we are standing in line at an all-you-can-eat buffet? Pick and choose what you like and leave the rest? I don’t know about you but there is a reason I haven’t been to a buffet in a while, my stomach! Typically buffets afford us the option to eat in quantities that would feed a small country some where. The after effects can often require anti-acid pills and a comfortable couch. I would advise you not look at the answer to the question of how to become the man you were created to be by thinking of your options as a buffet. Rather, think of the answer as a finely crafted meal at an expensive restaurant. The food is prepared just for you the way you like it, the portions are just right, and you’re able to walk away from the meal knowing you’ll be back soon! No anti-acid pills or couch needed. Just simple enjoyment.
We are all created with purpose and intention. God created us to be in relationship with Him. He also created us knowing our strengths and weaknesses. Since He knows more about us than we know about ourselves it would only make sense to check out how He has designed manhood. It is very important to know how to become the man that you were created to be while also enjoying the relationships God has blessed you with!
